Sustainability is a Responsibility
We are privileged to live in a world with increased environmental awareness. Our calendars are filled with events like Earth Day, World Water Day, Trees Are The Key Awareness Week, World Bee Day, and even Fashion Revolution Week.
However, privilege comes with responsibility.
Here are a few reasons why we believe sustainability is our responsibility.
We Can’t Hide the Sun
While living in Guatemala, we learned an interesting idiom: “You can’t hide the sun with a finger.” In their culture they use this saying when they’re trying to cover up a really big problem with a very small solution. While traveling the world, we as founders became aware of wasteful practices that are damaging our environment. We knew there had to be a better way, and simply ignoring the problem is not going to make it go away. Radical change involves radical action. So instead of hiding the sun behind our fingers, let’s all change one small habit today to contribute to a bigger solution!
We Can Do More
The more aware we are of our environment’s degradation and our role in it, the more we can be actively involved in being part of the change. If you look for ways, we guarantee that you will find more than one where you can adopt sustainable practices in your life. For example, at M&J we have found a clever way through recycling high-quality, second-hand denim that would otherwise end up in landfills. Where there’s a will, there’s a way. We Can Grow Up
Responsibility has an “adulty” connotation to it. We often associate it with growing up. It actually makes sense if you think about it–-most of the time, the older we get, the more responsibilities we acquire. Sustainability is a responsibility we can gladly take on when we understand that truly caring for our world means being mature. Check out the following definitions according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary:
Waste: to spend or use CARELESSLY
Mature: : based on slow CAREFUL consideration

Showing maturity through carefully caring for our environment will not only make Mother Earth proud, it will also preserve the beautiful, magnificent, and wondrous place we humans call home!
